Yesterday I was moved to tears after talking to, and hearing the testimony of a young man who survived the Rwandan genocide. At 9 years old he witnessed the brutal murder of his family, friends and neigbhours. in the midst of all the chaos he was separated from his father. As an attempt to save his life he ran away for over 1000km carrying his 4 year old brother into a game reserve, where they spent days hungry and hiding. He later witnessed his brother being killed by a bomb, and a decade later he was reunited with his father by chance. I asked him how is it that he is still standing and sane, and his response touched my heart. He said the only thing that kept me going and alive was hope. I had hope that I will live to see a better day in spite of what I had been through.....I need to stop complaining about what Ive been through.
