Yesterday I was reading the paper, (yes, Im old), and there was an article saying OH schools were ranked a C, as were most US schools. What??? Within my lifetime weve gone from a world class system to C? I figured it was hype, since the article came from an educational industry trade, and who knew what criteria was used. Today, a kid that helps out people around the complex knocked looking for some work. He knows Im in a wheelchair and I admire his trying to earn a little money, so I happily pay him to take out the trash, or Sharon will pay him for the same reason. Today he was just late, shed already made the dumpster run, so I told him if he came at the same time every week, he could always count on a few dollars. I wish there had been a kid like him in my last bldg. Anyway, I told him to come at noon every Sunday. He asked me to repeat it a couple of times, then said, what time is noon? I nearly fell out of my chair. Excuse me, but how old are you? He said 11. I vowed Denae would never go to school in this neighborhood, and told him to go ask his mom what time noon was. WTF? I knew schools turned out kids that couldnt read, write or count money. But now they cant tell time? What exactly happens at school these days? I get the feeling its just a holding pen until theyre old enough to go to jail.
