Yesterday I was watching National Geographic and they had a segment of the National Natural History Museum, or as the Brits call it the Museum of Life. The program was mostly about climate changes, and very informative. Showing fossils from all over the world collected by scientists and people ftom all over the globe. Many of the species are extint. They also did a segment on the plant life in Britian, and it was so interesting since they explained that for over 400 years areas in and around London have had plants from all over the world brought and planted there. Many not orginal to the island. Some thought of as purely British since the population has always seen them there. What the botanists were explaining is that some of these non native plants are thriving, causing havoc with the landscape, and it is projected that these species will one day dominate. Recently there has been a change in climate in Britian. And they know this because these plants which for centuries have been inoffensive and often small, non fruit bearing or non seed bearing are growing. Their growth can be accounted for because of the rise in tempatures equal if not more warm than where they orginally are from, mainly China and Japan. The other factor in their growth is that many of the natural prohibitive factors such as animals and various illnesses do not exist naturally in Britian.
