Yesterday Im at giant eagle doing some grocery shopping, I go to the self checkout, I finish scanning all of my items, Im inserting the money into the machine to pay for my groceries, and this random female walks over to me and says, you paying for food? I dont say anything at first then she says it again, you paying for food? I reply, yea. Then she says, you couldve saved $20. I replied, its cool. Then she utters, baller! Then walks away. All I could do is laugh out loud and shake my head. I left the store thinking I didnt know people who buy groceries are considered ballers and it just makes me think. In a place where expectations are so low, what gives someone the incentive to strive for better? I think rather than being an innate difference it should be the required norm. This explains why the community I grew up in is the way that it is. This has to change. How do we expect anyone to build anything successful if no one will buy into it? If you think that buying food is something special then how do you expect anyone to buy a product that you have worked to build? I have always been one to buy cds from the record store. I buy my music now from iTunes and it really bothers me when people think I am stupid for paying for things instead of stealing or trying to get over. You cannot build or sustain a society or a community without practicing legitimate economics. We have to do, and require better or else things will slide even further down the toilet.
