Yesterday LT Jason W Greercalled me out in the PL Vulcan Training Challenge. So today members of Squad 8 - Harrisburg Bureau of Fire went out and drilled on techniques to remove a persons head from between the bars of a fence. Two quick and easy ways to carry out this operations are: 1. Take cribbing wedges and place them in between the bars and slowly drive them tighter forcing the bars apart. 2. Use webbing and wrap it around the bar, pull the webbing tight and twist it with a haligan or similar tool. It will pull the bar away enough to remove the head from the bars. In the comments below I placed a link to a Fire Engineering video explaining the process for both techniques. Summer is here, the kids are out, people are hanging out and cooking out so you know stuff will happen. These are good ways to quickly make a bad situation good. As part of the challenge I must now call out three more people to participate. Those people are a few friends of mine who all came up through the fire service together back in the day. Bryan Kelly Firefighter at Squad 1 in Brooklyn, LT Robert Cembor of the Warwick, RI fire department and Tim Hanson Firefighter with the Arlington County, Va Fire Department. You guys now have 48 hours to conduct a company drill, share it on FB and call out three more friends to do the same! Oh and good thing we drilled because as we were leaving we ran into someone from Wagon 4 Harrisburg Bureau of Fire Station #2- Kings Of The Hill who had been spying on and got his head stuck in the fence while trying to get a better look, so of course once again we bailed them out….. Check out the pics, those Wagoneers sure are funny looking….. You know, FFs never miss a chance to bust chops….
