Yesterday Marie, Pat, and I toured MEGA CAVERNS, the largest of its type it the U.S. and all under the city of Louisville. The former limestone mine consists of some 17 miles of room & pillar tunnels, the face some 90 feet high when being mined for the rock! Besides offering tours and recreation (zip lines, rock climbing walls, etc.,) it has 17 bussinesses operating here and one of the largest storage sites in Commonwealth. Towards the end of the 75 minute tour, when in the dark and wet sections of the former mine, I actually began having flashbacks of my coal mining days....WOW!
