Yesterday Muhammadu Buhari, the APC presidential candidate - TopicsExpress

Yesterday Muhammadu Buhari, the APC presidential candidate addressed the Press and informed them that the secondary school he attended in Katsina state shall produce his result in due time. Hours later, a document purporting to be the secondary school WASC of Buhari started circulating around the internet. According to Premium times, that is the school certificate of Buhari. I took time to study the document and I found out that the document is actually a statement of result which is still in line with our law, especially now that Buhari claims that the original is with the military. We presume that as the military has denied being in custody of the original, that the Statement of result would do for now. A look at that certificate would reveal that the name of the candidate on that certificate is Mohamed Buhari while the name of General Buhari is Mohammadu Buhari. We are dealing with certificates here and if there is any difference between the name on the certificate and the name of the person who holds himself out as being the owner of the certificate, suspicion is generated. The reason for this is that certificates are the pillars of recognition and authority so if a certificate is suspect, then the basis of authority is eroded. Buhari has been holding himself out as Muhammadu Buhari. In his military form 199A, he stated his name as Mohammadu Buhari. In his INEC forms, both past and present, he stated that his name is Muhammadu Buhari. When he was the commander in chief, he stated that his name is Muhammadu Buhari. Now that a certificate is emerging, we now see Mohamed. Who is Mohamed? Is Mohamed the same thing and person as Muhammadu? In the North, people answer village and family names. Tambuwal is from Tambuwal and that is also his name. So many northerners answer their village and town name so the name Buhari may be a common name there. Also, Mohamed is the most common name is Islam. I think Buhari has some explaining to do as to why the name on the certificate is Mohamed while his name is Muhammadu. Remember the Evans Enwerem (Evan Enwerem) saga, the Johnson Kalu and Orji Kalu certificate saga. Both waec, NECO, universities and professional bodies would not accept a candidate when the names on the certificate is irregular or different. An explaining have to be done. Secondly, the certificate shows that the exam was taken in May/June of 1661 when we all know that in 1661, school certificate exams were not taken at thst time but in November/December. Also, Buhari in his Military Form 199A stated that he has a credit in Health science but the certificate paraded, which I learnt has been owned up by him as being his, the certificate does not show that Buhari sat for, or passed Health science. Furthermore, the military record produced by the military showing the academic record of Buhari, stated that Buhari stated that he passed Mathematics but tge certificate we now have shows that he failed maths. Also, the certificate stated that Buhari was in class 6 when he sat for the exam but we all know that in 1961, there was nothing like class 6 secondary school. The 6-3-3-4 system of education started in 1980s. In 1961, what was applicable was the class 5 system of education. Finally, I think that the way Buhari handled this his qualifications issue leaves a sour taste in the mouth. A man who aspires to rule a country should at list, put his acts together. The law said that you should attach your certificate in your INEC form, what you ought to do, if you are to be taken serious, is to go to your former school and demand for a CTC or statement of your result. It is disrespectful and an insult to Nigerians, to tell INEC that the original certificate is with the secretary Military board, thereby telling INEC to go there and pick it. That attitude shows lack of seriousness as it exemplifies how he would rule this country if given the mandate. The depositions in his Affidavit that the certificate is with the military is also a perjury. Perjury means telling lies under oath. Before swearing an affidavit, a man who aspires to rule this country should have taken steps to verify the authenticity of the assertions to be contained in the sworn statement. He cannot just take things for granted. Yesterday, he admitted that the documents were not with the military and that his school shall produce the necessary document. Nigerians are educated people. No leader or intended leader should take the Nigerian citizens for granted. The biggest problem in this country is our inability to obey simple laws. If Buhari had obeyed the simple provision of the Electoral Act and directive requiring him to annex a copy of his certificate to his INEC form, all these brouhaha would have been avoided. I do not know who shall win the presidential election but there is the need for those who aspire into public office to know that they ought to be role models and if they do not take serious things serious, the hope of having a good country would be elusive.
