Yesterday (Sept. 17, 1988) marked the 26th anniversary of what I felt was Race of the Decade for the 1980s: https://youtube/watch?v=IJj4zDa5M-E This was Alysheba, racing WITHOUT Lasix setting a then-track record of 1:59 2/5 in taking the 1988 Woodward against what arguably could have been considered one of the deepest fields assembled for any Grade 1 stakes event that decade. It was at a time when there was a huge debate on Lasix, then banned in New York. Many felt the Lasix ban cost Alysheba the Triple Crown a year earlier, but this Woodward to me showed he did not need Lasix and simply ran into Bet Twice when Bet Twice ran the race of his life to take the 1987 Belmont Stakes.
