Yesterday, a dear friend compared listening for justice and injustice to hearing music. People with good pitch are often pained when they hear un-harmony. I think, to extend the metaphor, that creating justice can work much the same way. Its not unlike practicing to learn a musical instrument. When learning to play music, you do basic exercises, practice, learn new pieces, practice and, did I mention, practice. Eventually, when you have been playing a few years, you can almost start to develop the idea that youre kind of good at it. Then you go and listen to a professional symphony or a virtuoso player of your instrument and you are both humbled and inspired and say, wow, I need to go back and practice some more! Thats what its like, as an activist, to listen to Sarah Thompson talk about the work of Christian Peacemaker Teams. Seriously, much admiration!
