Yesterday, a package of common sense updates and policy changes to the Inclusionary Housing Ordinance was rejected by just one vote in a newly formed council committee. These changes were voted down in spite of the 589 homes built or financed so far, in spite of an overwhelming majority of speakers - including some developers - speaking in favor, and without proposing any specific alternatives. Voting down changes to the IHO without an alternative plan doesnt make the law go away, but it guarantees that Denver wont get any improved outcomes and developers wont get added flexibility or higher incentive payments for building homes. ~ There is an affordability crisis in Denver. Surveys demonstrate that this is a high priority for the people of Denver. And so, as allowed by Council rules, I will file this bill directly for consideration by the entire City Council, so all 13 members get to vote. If you care about maximizing one of our tools for moderately priced for-sale homes in Denver, then now is the time...speak up.
