Yesterday as Ray Watt and I stood in line at a dollar store - - TopicsExpress

Yesterday as Ray Watt and I stood in line at a dollar store - waiting patiently as an older gentleman worked to pay for his goods. Standing between us and him were two young boys. One appeared to be maybe 8 and the other perhaps 4 - they stood there - each with a filler in hand and their choice of candy in the other hand - the older boy was - as you could tell in-charge of his brother - nudging home periodically to be still and be quiet! Then the older mans cane slipped and fell to the ground - the older of the two boys dutifully reached down lifted the cane and handed it back to the gentleman. Now here is where my heart breaks - the older man took his cane from the hand of the boy never acknowledging the assistance given - no smile - no thank you - nothing! The boy glanced down at his little brother smiled and reached back for his hand - once again waiting patiently to purchase their candy picks! We often wonder what has gone wrong with this generation - perhaps we have - as a society have a bigger role than we accept!! - it is easy - for us to believe this is caused by bad parenting - and their inabity to teach their youngsters to be respectful and kind to others! Well yesterday that gentleman missed the opportunity to teach a young boy and his brother about manners, gratitude, and respect - simply by not speaking those two little words - THANK YOU! - which mean so much! Kindness and being respectful costs nothing - but is way more valuable than any amount of money - no matter how young or old we are - kindness always pays off! Have a happy and kind-filled Monday!
