Yesterday at a religious roundtable in Abuja, CAN president, Ayo - TopicsExpress

Yesterday at a religious roundtable in Abuja, CAN president, Ayo Oritsejafor blamed the explosion of Boko Haram terrorism on the alleged failure of Muslim leaders, led by the Sultan, to talk to and convince Boko Haram to sheathe their swords. This is a very unfair comment and a total misreading of what the entire thing is about. Muslims and their leaders have declared endlessly that whatever the ideology of Boko Haram is, it has nothing to do with Islam; Muslims have been circulating Koranic verses to justify that assertion. Boko Haram terrorists have indiscriminately murdered and despoiled Muslims and Christians alike in their thousands, including the emirs and the Muslim leaders whose palaces have also been overrun. It is even safe to say that Muslims are greater in the number of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) scattered across the North. In other words, Muslims are not in a better position to ‘convince’ Boko Haram to stop devastating Nigerians. Pastor Oritsejafor has as much responsibility as Sultan Abubakar or anybody else to convince Boko Haram to sheathe their swords. However, the truth is that the ultimate responsibility lies with the federal government which must mobilize its human and material resources to end the Boko Haram scourge.
