Yesterday, at the APC Youth Summit, Tunde Fashola, governor of Lagos State, shared a story with us. It was how he was having sleepless nights, when the Ebola virus spread to Lagos. One of the nights, he suggested visiting the Ebola clinic to his wife, and the wife snapped her fingers, circled them round her head seven times, saying God forbids! One morning, he called his ADC and told him that they would be going to a place. He didnt mention where. Only the Commissioner of Health knew where we were going, he said. Getting to the junction of the Ebola clinic, he announced to all his aides where they were going and said those who want to turn back are free to do so. Shocked. But they all followed their governor. That picture that you see me having my hands in my pocket was taking from that Ebola clinic, yes, I was afraid, Fashola said. He saw young men at work there and not only his presence encouraged them, he also ordered that they are given life insurance. When I returned home, my wife didnt hug me, she stayed away from me for one week, Fashola concluded. And we all laughed. People, this is simply what leadership is all about! Imagine if Tunde were to be the president of Nigeria? He would go to that school bombed in Yobe, the Chibok community where girls were stolen, and flanked by his service chiefs, he would address a press conference from that very spot. Tunde wasnt even considering the risk of contracting that virus, he visited the place! How are these things hard for Goodluck Jonathan to understand? Scores of kids were killed by terrorists, and a day after, hes in Abuja, dancing Sekem, declaring his intention to run for presidency, again. Kai!
