Yesterday at the Yellowstone Scientific Conference I met a very nice man who is a direct report to Secretary of State John Kerry. Part of this mans job is to report to the secretary about issues and ethics surrounding climate change. As I am nothing if not an optimist, I asked him if he would like to read FISH TANK and if he would take a copy to Secretary Kerry. Absolutely, the man said, and then he told me this: while I cant guarantee hell read it, I can guarantee FISH TANK will be in the Secretarys personal mail pile. This from a serendipitous discussion with someone who asked to join me for breakfast. I love serendipity! Now try as I might, I could not get my new friend to divulge the Secretarys plans for the pending decision on the Keystone XL pipeline. But I can only now hope that Secretary of State Kerry reads FISH TANK, and that perhaps the story gives him pause, and then perhaps my modest allegory will play a tiny part along with the millions making their voices heard on the dangers of climate change. Perhaps come post-election, the Secretary and the President will indeed veto Keystone XL. ... Lets hope.
