Yesterday, by 59 to 41%, Massachusetts voters overwhelmingly - TopicsExpress

Yesterday, by 59 to 41%, Massachusetts voters overwhelmingly approved of casino gambling in the Bay State. Specifically, helping Everett, Springfield and Plainfield. But there has been talk about the possibility of a Casino on the open land off of Wilbur Avenue, that is being investigated by our selectmen (but most people seem to believe is a remote, at best possibility). The Fall River Herald News ran a grid of how the election broke down locally. I wanted to check how Somerset voted on Question 3, the casino gambling bill. This almost looks like a misprint, but according to the Herald News, the vote in Somerset was: 4,087 (Yes, which was AGAINST casino gambling) 206 (No, which was IN FAVOR OF casino gambling) By contrast, Fall River, whose mayor is in favor of a casino in the city, voted 10,870 for gambling and 5,113 against. Freetown and Swansea also voted in favor of casino gambling, while Westport was almost split down-the-middle. Did Somerset actually vote 4,087 to 206 against casino gambling? That would be an amazing message, if true. I would think the vote would have been closer if the question was casino gambling FOR Somerset. But even there was a 1 or a 2 missing in front of the 206, there is still a clear message of what Somerset voters think of casino gambling in general, if not specifically for our town.
