Yesterday evening, I flew to Sibu to attend the DAP MP of Lanang, Alice Laus wedding dinner. As I am still being banned from entering into Sarawak by the Sarawak state government, I had to apply for a special pass, which was issued by Sibu immigration office. Alices wedding news and photos were widely published in the local Chinese media prior to the Dinner. She looked so gorgeous in all the wedding photos. The road from airport to Sibu city centre was quite congested last night. When I was told that 2000 guests were invited to the wedding dinner, I then realized that the dinner had contributed to the traffic jam. Ha ha! During the dinner, some organizations committee members went up to the stage to present gold necklace and bracelets to Alice. DAP Sarawak state committee was on the list too. DAP Sarawak State Chairman Chong Chien Jen and DAP Sarawak elected representatives also went up to the stage, and Chong put the gold bracelet on Alice Laus hand. I wonder whether Chong has bought any gold bracelet for his wife before......ha ha! Majority of the Sibu Chinese are of the Hock Chew clan. Last night, I learnt something about Hock Chew wedding dinners. For the Hock Chew, rice is only served at meals held after a Chinese funeral service. It is considered pantang to serve rice at a wedding dinner. A number of elected reps, including the Peninsular MPs were present at the dinner last night. It was a joyful dinner for many of us. I thank Alice Lau for giving me a reason to enter into Sarawak. I wish Alice Lau and her husband a blessed and happy marriage forever.
