Yesterday evening spoke with a mother whose daughter was invited and went to USTA National Training camp. It is all about parameters for the USTA. Everything has to fit in this window. The same fundamentals, the same size players, a general prescription for each stroke, and they get nervous when anyone is outside the parameters of what is considered acceptable. This is what I have been explaining will be the trend and the way things will further evolve with a strong USTA or Federation in this country. I can name player after player that does not fall into certain parameters they now have. I can name method after method they have preached about thru the years as being how things are supposed to be done and taught. For example, less than 10-15 years ago I can remember going to USTA functions and the only way meaningful development was supposed to happen was only thru live ball feeds. Does anyone else remember this? And for the recent past (and I think cause they paid the Spanish a lot of money) the only way to see meaningful development is thru hand fed balls on the same side of the court as the player. This is one example. Am I overstating this stuff?
