Yesterday, instead of another village and another monastery, I opted to visit a nearby elephant rehabilitation/retirement center that was highly recommended in my guidebook. My guide had been there and said it was really good - you could feed them, ride them and help bathe them. Sounded wonderful. My guide hired a car and driver to take me. After an hours drive over windy roads with gorgeous jungle mountain scenery we arrived. But since I had no booking it would be impossible to see the elephants, apparently this is not an every day park, you have to arrange ahead and I doubt they would have done it for just me. So really disappointed. Then back an hour over the same winding road and the challenge of catching up with the group for lunch. Oh well, I tried... After 3 days without internet in the cool mountains (actually needed a fleece in the evening and morning), we are now at Inle Lake for 3 nights. Hoping for some good photo ops!
