Yesterday morning, I was assigned to attend our departments Crisis - TopicsExpress

Yesterday morning, I was assigned to attend our departments Crisis Intervention Class. Many of my co-workers/friends/family were also there. We were asked to introduce ourselves to the instructor with our name and years of experience in law enforcement. As my turn came around, I realized just how long I had been doing this job; 32 years! Wow! It turned out, I had the most time in law enforcement in our class! As others introduced themselves, I noticed there were some kids in the class with just a few years in law enforcement. I smiled, remembering when I was that young and thought these youngsters have many years ahead of them. Please God, watch over them in their careers. Then the tragedy hit and many of us received texts and phone calls letting us know what was going on. Little did we know it would get worse before it got better. As our deputies and allied agencies hunted these scumbags, another pair of deputies, Placer County deputies found them, and unfortunately, another one of our brothers died. What can I do? How can I help. So many responded so quickly, the best I could do was stay out of the way and let these guys/gals do their job! And, in the face of tragedy and loss, our deputies, along with Placer County deputies and our allied agencies did a FANTASTIC JOB! Despite our feelings of anger, grief, incredulity, we did our job and we did it well! The scumbags who did this are behind bars. I had a difficult time sleeping last night and finally gave up at 0500 hrs this morning. I was so wound up about the days events and our losses. What does one say to our SSD family about this loss? What do you say to the fallen deputies families? The only thing that came to mind, and as many of you know, I am not a very religious person, were the following verses from the bible: Matthew 5:9: Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. John 15:13: Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Please dear SSD family and our extended Placer County SO family, take solace in these verses as you go through the paces and rigors of your job today. Remember, you are a part of the chosen! Danny and Michael, rest easy. You did your job well. :
