Yesterday my crew cut apart some scenery built out of steel and threw it in a dumpster. It was used once for a corporate sales event. The pieces before we destroyed them could have framed a small house. This kind of thing happens a lot in our business, and it makes me sad. I love being a stagehand, but I also feel a sense of obligation to promote sustainable practices in my home, and work life. Is there a point in time when a crew should say something about this reckless waste? Does the IATSE have a sustainability committee?
