Yesterday, my friend Alberto Paniz Mondolfis younger brother was illegally detained by the National Guard in Venezuela. The National Guard also showed up at my aunt’s house with an arrest warrant for my cousin. They are after her for a car accident she was in that was already resolved in court four years ago! They are using any excuse to arrest the students in order to intimidate people from participating in the anti-government protests. Today, I have learned that Carlos Eduardo Requena, my dear childhood friend, has been severely beaten by the National Guard for participating in a protest. His injuries are serious and he had to be taken to a hospital for treatment, but the National Guard is now transferring him to Fuerte Tiuna, a military complex. I am sharing this with everyone because I want all of the people I am connected to, to see how many people are affected by this just through me! I want you to know that when you hear about the crisis in Venezuela, you know at least one person who is deeply affected by this. I want you guys to know that the people being arrested, tortured and murdered are my friends and family. You all know me, and through me you know at least three people who’s human rights have been violated by the Venezuelan government!
