Yesterday, my son and I unwittingly got to experience a police confrontation after riding our bikes through a nearby neighborhood (we were going to look at a bike for Stefanie for Christmas found on craigslist). Though not an Eric Garner event, the Deputy who showed up was a complete asshole, a jerk, a power hungry prick without cause, and unable to size up the situation using common sense and police skills one might attribute to a kindergartner without life experience. Of course, infuriated by his frightening my son... (several times he threatened to arrest me and take my son to child services for no good reason). At first I was my old smiling saavy sarcastic self who attempted to be civil at first, poignantly helpful and understanding when that failed, and then... derisive and indignant with my special hidden wit without hiding my opinion of his magnificently limited brainpower, investigation skills, and apparent lack of all things reasonable and good. I did manage to remain free of the dreaded Seminole County jail although he wanted to arrest me with or without cause and tried several times to bait me into obliging him. I dont know about you but my once love and respect for our freedom of speech and god given unalienable rights has morphed into someone who holds no illusion for the words, serve and protect, but instead KNOWS that the new mantra is intimidate and cite without oversight, good reason, or limit to law. We are in a police state whether we want to admit it or not and I personally DO NOT recognize this place once called America any longer. Im not mad...just aware. The song below sums up my feelings and I beg you to enjoy it at least once today if only to remember what it once meant to be an American with hope for our children.
