Yesterday, one of my babies attended his very first adoption - TopicsExpress

Yesterday, one of my babies attended his very first adoption event. This was his first time out. He was a 4-5 year old sweetie, his human mommie was taken away and sent to a nursing home or assistant living. He was unkept and uncared for, and a neighbor called me to come a.s.a.p to help him and two other pets that suddenly had no one to care for them. The main report was that of a very large dog (110 pounds) that kept breaking down the door......well geez, I would break the dang door down too to get back inside if someone tossed me out of the house in the Texas sweltering heat when I was used to being in the comfort of a/c all day. The lil dog was matted and unkept, and no records of vetting. In just a few days, he was groomed, vaccinated, neutered, and all the other good things that we, as a rescue do, beginning our search to find the ultimate best home and life. His adjustment went well, the transition was smooth with very few rough days of missing his human mommie that he was so accustomed to. He did not fair well at his first adoption event. He began to shut down and threatened those who came near. He growled and went to a corner to be alone. This was it! He wanted no part of the noise or strangers peering at him through a crate along with all the congestion. The drool began and he was indeed sad. I knew I needed to get this situation turned around and F-A-S-T. I picked him up and held him close and assured him that I would get the proper help he needed. Oh Dear God.......... I was still at the adoption event, and WHY I was still there, I have no idea, I should have been on my way and finishing up. I still had alot of work to do. For some reason, I was distracted and still hanging out on the sidewalk. And then............a lady appeared, a very nice lady that I had met several months ago. We had exchanged contact info, she was rescue and worked with this specific breed. HOW IRONIC THAT SHE SUDDENLY APPEARED! GOD ANSWERED MY QUICK SIDEWALK PRAYER FOR HELP. Soon.....our sad lil fellow was in her arms, and away they went.....he is in the ultimate best of care now, with someone who understands exactly what he needs and what he went through yesterday. Instead of sleeping on a doggie bed or in a crate at my place, I got a call and was told he was cuddled up with his humans....he slept in a human bed last night. This is what rescue is all about; seeking out what is best for our furry friends. He will never be subjected to a hot and dirty sidewalk ever again with people peering or poking at him all day.....that I can count on! I am still in awe at how this nice lady just appeared suddenly out of the blue. I BELIEVE IN PRAYER!
