Yesterday reminded me of the Good Ole Days of UT football, from the Big Orange Caravan heading down I-40 to spontaneous outbursts of Rocky Top on The Strip before the game. The excitement in the air was palpable. Even though UT was a slight favorite, no one really knew what to expect from Team 118 and a lot of people expected Utah State to pull an upset - the Aggies were led by the same QB that nearly beat National Champion Auburn. I was cautiously optimistic but had secretly prepared myself for the long drive home in case we lost. Not one person left during the downpour before the game and we all cheered when the sun came out and a rainbow rose over Neyland. Then, the we really cheered louder when the Vols scored, louder on defense, and even louder during the new Third Down for What song. The scoreboard said we hit 101db, which tied the Neyland record. And, I believe it. Im pretty sure 102,255 people woke up with sore throats this morning. I know I sure did! Solid offense, crazy good defense, and no turnovers. Old Neyland was rocking like she hasnt in a long time, and not just during kick-off, but throughout the entire game. The players gave everything they had and then some. And, the fans stayed until well after the game was over. Yes, this was just one game, but Coach Jones and Team 118 made a statement. We wont back down to anyone. We are getting better each game. And, home field advantage is ours again. General Robert Neyland would have been proud.
