Yesterday saw the opening of our White Winter Christmas Garden on the Church Lane with decorations made by local schools. We ran a schools competition and we had entries from Gaelscoil Adhamhnain, Educate Together, Lurgybrack National School and Park Early Learning School. The overall winner was Park Early Learning school who received €100 for a school library from Easons Letterkenny. In the individual category, the winner was Jimmy McCafferty from Educate Together who won a pair of Converse Runners from Greenes shoes. This was the first year of our Christmas and a great deal of credit goes to our committee member Amanda Clarke for the idea. She was greatly helped by committee members James Cullen and Mary Crawford. The garden are placed in three large boxes kindly made for our group by James McCormack from Churchhill. We then filled the boxes with soil and were placed on the window sills of the former unit of Patrick Gildeas Hairdressers and Universal Books. We were sponsored some compost and Christmas Directions from Alcorns Gardens centre. Our judge Clare Cunnane had the very difficult task of picking out a winner from a very high quality field. We then asked Clare the equally difficult task of opening the garden. Many thanks to committee members Amanda, James and Mary, judge Clare Cunnane, Darren Ashmore of Easons Letterkenny, Alfie Greene Greene Shoes, James McCormack and Alcorns Garden Centre. Most of all thanks to the pupils and teachers from Gaelscoil Adhamhnain, Educate Together, Lurgybrack National School and Park Early Learning School for creating our first Christmas Garden.
