Yesterday started with pretty normal routine and zap, it all changed! I worked with Debbie in the early 70’s. We were both thoroughly enjoying the beginnings of our single career lives when into the office walked Tom. A few short years later they were married and embarked on their life journey. But they left DC and I became uber career centered and we lost contact until two or three years ago when Debbie and I reunited on Facebook, promising at some point to find a way to reconnect in person. Jump ahead 30+ years when yesterday I got a message from Debbie that she and Tom were in town and could I have dinner? It’s hard to project the outcome of reunions. People change and sometimes the things that connected you evaporate. But sometimes, like last night, you are given a gift … it’s not that you meet and no time has passed or that you haven’t changed, but when the core of the friendship is honest you’re able to reminisce and quickly move on to an appreciation of the beauty of dear friends who have grown to be amazing, fun, loving and thoughtful human beings. I sang all the way home last night windows down and radio turned all the way up because I was just so damn happy! Love you, too, Debby Armstrong Davidson and promise that stalking will be unnecessary.
