Yesterday the 13th of Sept. 2014 I went out to Junction City Ks. to watch the AMCA cross country Cannonball Race as they left Junction City after a day of rest. They had arrived the on thursday evening and had all day Friday to make repairs and hopefully be ready for resumption of the their race across the United Stated. They left Daytona Beach Florida several days earlier and were headed to Tacoma Washington. They are not racing to see who gets there first, but the one who has the most points when they get there wins. The race is broken up into stages and each stage is worth so many points. If you arrive at your assigned daily destination after the time allotted for that segment, you lose points for that day. The later you are the more points you lose. If you do not complete the segment you lose all the points for that day. It gets pretty difficult at times.There have been wrecks, severe and minor breakdowns, and even a major fire that claimed one machine. All in all this is really is an amazing event that the Antique Motorcycle Club of America has put together. This video shows the excitement and confusion of the continued race day start. There will be several videos posted of this morning in motorcycle history, some boring but all part of history in the making.
