Yesterday, the 28 Ambassadors of EU Member States met the new UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mr. Zeid Raad Al Hussein. Ambassador Mariangela Zappia, Head of the EU delegation, recognised that the High Commissioner was taking up office at a very challenging time when the world is faced with some very acute human rights crises, and assured the High Commissioner that the EU will continue to defend the independence of the office.
