Yesterday was bittersweet for us at the track. We had a bright day, because of youth and enthusiasm turning laps and racing around like rock stars, smiles, giggles and laughter- and yesterday our friend Larry brought his dad Larry Sr. out. Dad is a happy, funny, huge race dad, and race fan, that is down to his last stages of a several year battle with cancer. Hes been fighting hard. Larrys a big scrappin dude. Seeing it making a big scrappin dude fight is hard. Larry brought dad out to the track because he loves it. This is touching and a reminder for us of how special our surroundings are. Racers in the heat of battle often have a spell when they get mad at racing, competitors, even the track and staff. Ive done this myself. We get a gut/reality check of when a mans final days and weeks are near- that he wants to come out and hang out, just one last time. Wed love to make racing perfect for everyone, every time- but thats not reality is it?Racing has ups and downs, struggles failures and victories. It has our enemies and friends, but in reality it is life. Its rocky at times full of excitement and passion. Racing is our life, and were in it together. In Larry taking a ride around the track yesterday and giving us a thumbs up out the window, even when hes been fighting on his white flag lap, is sobering and sweet. Larry youre taking the checkered in first buddy. Youre a good Man. We are blessed to have you in our racing family. Thanks for choosing to spend time with us. Ill admit a tear or so has fallen in writing about this. Youve reminded me how finite and special all our times together at the track really are. Thank you.
