Yesterday was the 33rd anniversary of the publication of my first book, Indemnity Only. About 15 years ago, the Library of Congress social sciences librarian, Victoria Hill, gave me a tour of the library and pulled the LOC copy of Indemnity Only from the shelves for me to see. The only people who can check out books from the LOC are members of Congress or their families and staff, and someone had clearly been enjoying my book in the tub--or perhaps it was a toddler trying to flush it down a toilet--but it was severely water-damaged. Still, it made me happy to know that someone in Congress had cared enough to check it out. Maybe it was Pat Schroeder, who introduced film-maker Pamela Beere Briggs to my work (or was it the other way around, Pamela?) leading Pamela to make a documentary about me, Sue Grafton and Marcia Muller--and the big bonus, turning us into friends. https://newday/film/women-mystery
