Yesterday we cycled to the Fisherman village, on the huge lake - TopicsExpress

Yesterday we cycled to the Fisherman village, on the huge lake formed by damming the Nan river.A few floating settlements, each formed by attaching a no of rafts together with ropes and using planks to cross over. Surrounded by shoals of (a type of) perch and some small enclosures of other fish, the sound of birds fish jumping and the reflection of the rippling water on the rattan ceilings broken occasionally by a motor - driven canoe. Viv and Jerry have their little cabin ($15) and I mine ($9). With frequent recourse to my little phrasebook we arrange for fish, rice and beer at 6.30. The fish was exquisite. After a breakfast of rice, boiled eggs and coffee, they boated us across the water so we could pick up the road to the next town,52 km away. After over 1000m of clmbing and the shedding of copious amounts of sweat, we have found a really good guest house. While nearly all the places we stay in are very basic, some are rather crumby while others such as this are rather good. Temperature today at midday was 40 degrees.
