Yesterday we did some spring cleaning. On occasion, we (or at least I), would go through all documents and other belongings, with a view to getting rid of stuff. Very much the minimalist, I dont like to collect clutter, and, most unfortunate for me (in a sense), I am living with two (what I have come to label as) collectors. The collector is the type of person who will hold on to every-single-thing just in case. Yes, collectors end up living in (what I would call) museums. They need huge storage facilities to keep all their junk (sorry, I am a minimalist, just calling it as I see it). The problem is (again, calling it as I see it), when they need something (for example a particular nail), no one knows where it is or can find it, so it (sort of) beats the purpose of having such vast collections. When I mean get rid, I dont necessarily mean throw away. Much of the stuff I no longer need will be donated or recycled. The most important thing to me is, instead of collecting dust, now, someone else will be able to make use of it. I dont need plenty of clothing, just enough outfits to last the working week and the water-rationing. I dont need plenty of shoes, just a comfortable pair for daily use and another for sports and running. I need books to read and a home gym to exercise. Here are some tips to unclutter: 1) Go through your stuff every 6 months or so 2) Everything that lacks purpose (décor is a purpose if you choose it), put it in a box or labelled container 3) After another 3-6 months, review the items in the box, if you didnt use or need it, consider getting rid of it I love the minimalist life.
