Yesterday we hit the road anxious to explore the Black Canyon of the Gunnison and we were again amazed at yet another spectacular natural wonder. We traveled the South Rim Road and later drove down the East Portal Road (16% grade) to the Gunnison River. The overlooks took us right to the edge of the Canyon walls....mesmerizing and dizzying at the same time! To appreciate the depth of these steep walls, imagine the Empire State Building placed in the River below and its top barely reaching half way up the Canyon walls.
