Yesterday we watched Miners Shot Down by Rehad Desai along with the lawyers representing the families and Mines and Communities (MAC). The thought-provoking and heart-breaking documentary about mineworkers in one of South Africas biggest platinum mines who began a wildcat strike for better wages. Six days into the strike, the police used live ammunition to brutally suppress the strike, killing 34 and injuring many more. Using the POV of the Marikana miners, Miners Shot Down, follows the strike from day one, showing the courageous but isolated fight waged by a group of low paid workers against the combined forces of the mining company, Lonmin, the ANC government and their allies in the National Union of Mineworkers. What emerges is collusion at the top, spiralling violence and the countrys first post-colonial massacre. South Africa will never be the same again. minersshotdown.co.za/ https://youtube/watch?v=ssPrxvgePsc Two years ago, 34 striking miners in South Africa were shot dead by police and security forces. The cover-up was a national scandal: theguardian/world/2014/aug/15/-sp-south-africa-platinum-mining-massacre-strike To add your voice join the protest on 29th January 10am at Lonmin Plc 2015 AGM: Dean’s Yard (by Westminster Abbey), The Assembly Hall, Church House Conference Centre, Deans Yard, London SW1P 3NZ
