Yesterday when Damion Bradley and I were looking at houses in New - TopicsExpress

Yesterday when Damion Bradley and I were looking at houses in New Orleans, we were walking around outside a house in the Bywater on N. Rampart Street, and an older gentleman came out from next door and started talking to us. You dont want to buy that house, he said. I asked him why not and he said: I used to know the lady who lived there....we called her Big Mama because shes a big lady…here let me get her on the phone and she can tell you about it. Before I could protest he was dialing his phone and talking to someone on the other end. He handed me the phone and said here talk to Big Mama. Big Mama proceeded to tell me that the house she had lived in as a renter was a big hot mess. She went on to describe how part of the roof leaked, and how the plumbing connection to the sewer in the street was going to need to be replaced. She said you dont want to live there, trust me. I thanked her and hung up. :-) As a northerner Im having a little bit of a hard time getting over how friendly everyone is, even people who arent from New Orleans. But I have to say I love it. A few blocks away from Big Mamas house, Damion and I stopped to pet a couple of friendly dogs on a front porch, and the woman who lived inside came out.....we ended up having a 20 minute conversation about her neighborhood (the Bywater) and why she loved living there. I think Im going to like New Orleans. The weekend was made extra special because Gregory Snuffleupagus Wells, John dAddario and Michael Carruth as well as Julie, Mia and Connor were so friendly and sweet to us.
