I asked him what he meant by Hindu meal, He replied, well, vegetarian meals Do you want one. I just laughed. Even Sramana Buddha is believed to have eaten pork that caused him dysentery and ultimately death. A. L. Basham has argued that vegetarianism developed in India as a result of the patronage and popularisation of Buddhism by Asoka, so vegetarian meals should be called Sramana meals or Monastic meals.
