Yesterday, while swimming off the beach in the Balesin Bay, I - TopicsExpress

Yesterday, while swimming off the beach in the Balesin Bay, I saw through my goggles an unmoving, colorful leaf-like thing. I thought how pretty the flowing leaves were and without a thought reached out to touch it. WRONG IDEA!!! As soon as my fingers reached it, I saw it moved and I felt a very sharp pain shooting through my arm. Luckily, or maybe because I suddenly felt so afraid that what hit me could be deadly, I rushed to the shore and sought help from the staff. I tried to keep it bleeding hoping that if there is poison in there, I could reduce the effect by letting it bleed. The girl who assisted me poured vinegar on it and called up the clinic and asked me to describe what I touched and she googled the image and I said yes to the Lion fish image. She got hot water where I dipped my fingers in and we waited for the doctor and all the time I was seeing my fingers and right hand swell and my middle finger turning dark. The idea of necrosis was a frightening one amidst the shooting, sharp pain I was feeling. That must be the worst pain Ive ever felt in my entire life!!! The googled data the girl read to me from her phone did alleviate the worry as she read if you got stung, dont panic! . The doctor arrived and brought me to the clinic where he took out the embedded spine left in my middle finger and administered first aid and gave me antibiotics, antihistamines and anti inflammation. By then, the pain was near making me pass off and my fingers have swollen and I could hardly bend them. The scare I have and the feeling of being so tanga were also making all the negative emotions run amuck inside my head. Eating Japanese food last night with just my left hand wasnt easy and made me realize how much I needed my right hand. This morning, when I woke up, I was so thankful that the excruciating pain is gone. The swelling has gone down and I could use my fingers in taking pics and yeah, posting in FB! There is still numbness and flexibility is not yet totally back but its getting there. I am so glad that I had to go through this in the best place there could be, Balesin! With their in-house doctor and complete first aid, medication and very able and helpful staff, I was, literally, in good hands. I didnt really want more people know how tanga I was, but then I thought, maybe by sharing this, it could help friends avoid similar incident or at least know what to do. To the Balesin management and staff, thank you so much!!! And to my team mates especially Karen and Joyce, thanks for all the help last night. voices.nationalgeographic/2013/08/08/the-truth-about-getting-stung-by-a-lionfish/
