Yesterdays dinner, a whole chicken £3 from farmer (but aldi do for similar price) veg mostly homegrown... Did 3 roast dinners with what is pictured on plate left for another dinner today, most likely chinese style noodle soup with chilli n ginger. The carcass has made a stock, put carcass/bones/skin etc in a pan with potato peelings, bay leaf, couple of carrots and peel, an onion, salt n pepper and boil, skim off scum, then lid on and simmer for 2/3 hours then strain it, let go cold, then take off fat from top, pour into ice cube trays and freeze...use 1 or 2 in cooking instead of shop bought cubes... I get 20 cubes plus out of it. If you think about it made mostly out of things that would be binned... 20 full flavoured cubes in a shop (i dont mean cheap ones) the best flavoured ones in a shop would cost around 3 quid for 20, so the price of the bird has paid for itself in stock... plus the 3 roasts and 4 chinese meals i will get out of it....
