Yet another creative genius who brought great joy and laughter to our lives and childhood is gone. As our Smithereens drummer Dennis Diken wrote in his liner notes to our first live concert EP back in 1987, We learned more about life from MAD magazine than from all of our school teachers combined, a funny statement about one of the many influences on the band, but in a sense, yes, it was true, MAD taught us kids about the real world and shaped our outlook on life and sense of humor.
