Yet further proof that Democrats are infinitely better politicians than Republicans: In JULY, some fringe Republican—coulda been Mike Lee, but you could look it up--proposed funding the entire government on two conditions: a one-year delay in the individual mandate, and repeal of the medical device tax. In fact, the House of Representatives actually passed a continuing resolution in September adopting this plan. But Harry Reid never brought it to a vote (not going to let the Republicans hold the economy hostage with a gun to the country’s head; Obamacare is “the law of the land” and we’re not going to tinker with it) and Obama promised to veto it if it did reach his desk. Now that the continuing resolution has been passed and the government is fully-funded again, Democrats in the Senate have proposed two “fixes” to Obamacare: a one-year delay in the individual mandate, and repeal of the medical device tax. Now that the Democrats have successfully portrayed their government slowdown as a Republican shutdown in order to avoid two changes that they apparently believed prudent, it is time for them to enact those changes so that the Democrats can take the credit for them.
