Yiipeeee!! This morning I get to meet Kalunge O MMworoa. And Mutembei Kibonge. And Nkatha O Kaibi. And Buranjisi O Mukorene. And Iruki a.k.a Hargeysa. And Sandiraka. And also Kalayu (making her maiden visit). And many many others. Today will be an excitement galore. They are here in the city of confusion. Dont ask me why. They were here at that hour when the same villagers say Maara went to throw away his mother. For the sake of the uninitiated, today is the day when powers to read are conferred to those who have not read enough by those who have read enough of everything. So, today is the official villagers-day-out and as one of them, I am very very excited. Today, somebody must be decorated with numerous stinging nettles in the name of artificial flower decorations and that one person cannot dare complain that the nettles are stinging unless they want to invite the wrath of the visiting villagers. Villagers will get very lost today mark you. It is not a new thing. We are used to it. We get lost every time we have a graduation because every graduate looks very much similar to the other owing to their homogeneous iconic caps and gowns. And because the Safaricom network will make a technical disappearance for the better part of the day, the search for the lost villagers will begin. I dont want to take the excitement out of the occasion, but we are here, ladies and gentlemen, at the grounds of University of Nairobi, near the loudspeakers and behind the KBC OB crew van, waiting to here (not see) the announcement that yet another - I repeat, YET another villager gets that coveted university honor. If you are inclined to feel jealous because your village is not represented, we are not to blame. Tonight, we must paint this city ngreen. :-) And with Sandirakas black twigs enough to last us a week, today is destined to be the day. In the meantime before I deliver and confer you with stinging nettles, may I take the earliest opportunity to wish and congratulate you my kid sis Emilly Edwards and all others who are living their dreams in this inaugural ceremony, HEKO! Hongerahh!! Natulenge juu.
