Yikes, we have a couple of ferral cat rescues locally and I have never heard of this happening. I once had a couple of them in my basement and they were very mean, I tried to chase them out with a broom and they scared me so bad I decided it best if I just let them go on living there. The most annoying part was all the fighting they did with each other, the screeching I had to listen to in the night was horrifying. I moved instead, haha.
