Yo- Ive been playing the bass guitar for....35 years now. Im not a great, innovative player, and I play for my own enjoyment these days. For me, music is an art form, a way of being creative and expressive, and also a way of communicating with others--those with whom I play, and those who are listeners, audience members. This is not a competition, not an athletic event, and ultimately its merely about the intentional vibration of air. Thats all music really is, when you get down to it. When people start ranking players, disrespecting players who happen to not play in the genre of music the person likes, maligning a person because of how many strings their instrument has, or whether they attack those strings with fingers or a pick, I personally think it says more about the person talking than it does about the player being talked about.....Ive been around long enough to hear a LOT of music, from all sorts of genres, and the only thing I can say for sure is that my appreciation for all sorts of music continues to grow, and the various ways a bass guitar can interact with these sorts of music continues to give me a great deal of enjoyment and enriches my life. Bassists should be open-minded, and supportive, good listeners, right? Not just when playing, but in life too......thats my two cents. Carry on.
