At its core, yoga is a tool for self-regulation. When we are self-regulated we are in present time, grounded, and centered. When we are self-regulated we are able to make good choices and be in healthy, satisfying relationships. When we are dysregulated we are anxious, depressed, neurotic or generally not feeling good. Because stress and trauma live in the body, the yoga practice is a perfect opportunity to confront and change some of the patterns that keep us stuck and suffering. Although yoga is the ideal tool, if taught or practiced unconsciously, the yoga practice can also perpetuate our unhealthy patterns rather than address them. In this course, you will learn how to teach yoga from a trauma informed perspective. If you are not a yoga teacher, you will walk away with self-regulation tools based in yoga that you can use in the classroom or any setting where you are working with individuals who may struggle with self-regulation.
