"Yoga is not about getting blissed out." True or False? "Abbie had a great line today when she said “Yoga is not about getting blissed out! The whole notion is ridiculous. Yoga is about becoming more sensitive.” This idea is brilliant, though it took me aback for a moment. Bliss is defined as perfect happiness. The cliché “ignorance is bliss” holds merit, as one would have to be oblivious of suffering to be truly blissful. I suppose it could be an argument of semantics but contentment with life is not the same thing as perfect happiness, circumstances can never be perfect. True sensitivity can be quite pleasurable and it can be equally painful, but it is neither a blessing or a curse, it’s just knowledge, and thus a growing inability to hide from truth. Yoga provides choice, it provides a way to see one’s suffering as it truly is and stay there, blissfully ignoring a path presented or to do the work to make one more sensitive. How beautiful and yet how horrifying."
