You Cant Campaign Now, Police Warn Politicians In Kwara, The Commissioner of Police in Kwara, Mr Ambrose Aisebo, on Tuesday warned politicians against political campaign, saying the ban was still in force in the state. Aisabor gave the warning at a meeting he held with leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ilorin. He reminded them that Section 10 of the Electoral Act of 2010 provides that political campaign should commence three months to election, adding campaign could not commence until Nov. 16. You can hold your meetings, rallies and processions, but you cannot campaign for now, he added, and stressed that political campaign was not the same thing as political rally, meeting or procession. The commissioner assured the politicians that the command would ensure strict compliance with the electoral laws; adding that police would moderate all political rallies and campaigns in the state. Aisabor said the command would not grant permit to two opposing political parties to carry out political rallies or processions on the same day in any part of the state. This, according to him, is to prevent political violence and breakdown of law and order at such rallies. He advised political parties to always notify the police at least 24 hours of their intention to hold rally, meetings and procession. The commissioner said that the PDP wrote him a week before the coming of President Goodluck Jonathan to the state for rally. He urged the political parties to play their games in accordance with the rules of the game. Aisabor warned that no political party or individual had the right to remove posters or billboards of another political party, saying anybody caught would be prosecuted. He promised to be guided by the fear of God, the constitution, rule of law and police regulations in all his actions as the commissioner. In his remark, the representative of the PDP in Kwara, Alhaji Haliru Mahmud, described the meeting as timely, saying it would assist in maintaining peace in the state. Mahmud, PDP Director of Youths in the state, appreciated the efforts of the police, and promised that PDP would do its best to complement police efforts in ensuring peace. The Interim Chairman of the APC, Alhaji Ishola Fulani, said the APC as the party in power would continue to ensure that peace and harmony reign supreme in the state. According to him, Kwara is the most peaceful state in the country and that it is the partys dream to maintain the peace the state is noted for.
