You and I (actually, Im only sure about me, but ...) are - TopicsExpress

You and I (actually, Im only sure about me, but ...) are frequently not very forthcoming about asking for what we want. At the beginning of each year, after the young children in my preschool class tried to get what they wanted using the ways they were used to trying to do it, we discussed four tools for how to get our classroom to work. Here is the first one: #1 - If you want something, or want something to happen, ask. Oh, by the way ... do you have your child care / sitter arrangements set up for the next session? Whether you do or do not, here is some homework: Does the asking for something from someone outweigh the possible benefits of getting what you asked for? What are the possible benefits of your asking someone to stay with your child(ren) while you attend the next session - perhaps as much or more for them than for yourself? Think about the possible outcomes, and what you may think they mean: 1- Yes, 2 - No, or 3 - Maybe, Ill let you know. Thats about it. Here is a tip: It can actually be easier to commit to attending first, if attending is something you really want. So ... Please confirm your attendance ASAP. Do so by e-mail or call to me (see below). This is so related to the topic of our next session, as we look at our relationship to asking for what we want, and what the words yes and no really mean to us: How and Why We Came to Do What We Do The Nature of Early Learning “We act, feel, and imagine without any recognition of the influence of past experience on our present reality.” - Dr. Daniel J. Seigel, The Developing Mind In this session, we explore this influence, and add a little more about human neurology, memory, and meaning. We examine the occurrence of trust, love, fear, and emotions. We also learn a new tool: “listening” as an active verb (this is very different from what is known as “active listening”). Interested in joining the next series?
