You are probably aware that the Christmas season is for many people a discouraging time. How can that be when we are celebrating one of the most wonderful times of the year? I wonder if the words of Jesus might not bring a remedy to this seasonal malady. ...remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, It is more blessed to give than to receive. Acts 20:35 Christs life and death for us illustrate this verse in that He never had a concern for himself, but, rather for us. And in reference to his death we read, ...for the joy set before him he endured the cross... The tone of Christmas completely changes for us when we see it in light of its true meaning--that Christ came to earth to grow up and suffer and die for us so that we could be made fit for Heaven. Then our desire to get fades as our hearts fill with thankfulness and love to the Lord; then we begin to see how blessed it is to give. This doesnt mean we need to be breaking the bank to find big gifts, because the best gift we can give is genuine love from a heart full of joy and peace. May this Christmas be delightful, not because we are getting the best gift ever; but, because we have generously giving hearts. Merry Christmas!
