You are so right, that is a good question. I ponder everyday on how can we improve. I feel as a community we have to return to viewing education as the single most important means of assuring our future. Simply put, we must get our children to school everyday, on time, ready to learn at age level. We have blamed others and excused ourselves, for our childrens and family educational short comings. For instance. Some are angry with the superintendent, some are angry with the school board, some say we are behind in technology. Books, buildings and buses are also things that we complain about. Well before desegregation, African American children and families barely even knew who the Superintendent was, they did not have a school board member to represent them who look like them, they did not have or know of any devices that needed a battery or power cord, the books had pages missing because they only got them after other schools would get the latest edition, the school was without AC and Heat and as for buses, they walked as many as 5 miles to attend. With all those odds some of our greatest minds were produced. This was achieved by none of the above but by having three things--------- 1. Student prepared, ready, encouraged and expected to learn. 2. Teacher trained, excited and motivated to teach with a concern for their student population. 3. Parents who engage, contribute and partner for their childrens success. WHAT HAPPEN
