You could already write a book on the smearing of Edward Snowden: now, it’s the ridiculous accusation (based, as everyone freely and happily admits, on not a shred of evidence) that Snowden couldn’t have done what he did by himself and that he probably secretly got assistance from the Russians! In other words, trapped in the Moscow airport when the U.S. took away his passport, he’s now officially morphed into a Russian spy from the beginning. Its key congressional figures claiming this sort of thing (undoubtedly based on rumors slipped to them by the intelligence community). The classic line of the McCarthy era smears rings true again today: Have you no sense of decency, sir? At long last, have you left no sense of decency?
